Samson and Jess Penang Clips

This post is a little outdated, but we have not the time to share the photos with you all!

Penang, Malaysia
Sept 8 to 15

Relaxing at the lobby of the hotel, Rasa Sayang.

1st day at George Town, I felt horrible after getting of a very cold bus ride and then walking in direct sun light. We entered little India, we really enjoyed the little shops, but then I could not bare the heat any longer.

So I said, "Let's go in for a drink". Jess had no choice but to come along. The place turned out to be a local canteen with people eating with their hands.

All I wanted was a glass of cold Milo, but the guy asked us, "You don't want to eat? You don't like our food?". Well of course not! But we did not want hot curry in 34 degree weather. Unfortunately, we had to eat to show our respect.

I was a bit timid to eat that way, but luckily Jess rose to the cultural challenge! She was very self conscious as she was left-handed though.

Hawker-centre near hotel, the Long Beach. Alright la, but they don't have Asam Laksa nor Si hum lor. But the auntie that served us drinks was very nice, she taught us how to order and not to pay unless the food arrive.

Waiting for the sunset at the beach.

Some photos of the old George Town. These buildings are all part of the area declared as being World Heritage.

This Hainan Chicken place was recommended by the bell boy. Very good.

Taking the bus home.

Free buffet dinner. We chose the night of my birthday to have it. Actually, if I only had 1 night for dinner. I would have chosen to eat at the big Hawker-Centre over this buffet. The Asam Laksa was mighty good, and the steam Si hum...oh the Si hums, with their juice that tastes kind of like mud....and finishing off the dinner with a good jundor ice.

  2. Nice place. I always think that Penang can crunch my thirst for nostalgia. Do you think it can? Look at the Chinese font of that Kedai Kopi May Loong. It's so 60's. Those hawker centres are everywhere in Singapore. We always visited them when we went there. Good food, reasonable price, but little or no A/C.
